Darma Zhanevich Biography


Today, not only streets, but also socially significant objects of the republic wear his name. The man of creative thought Darma Zhanevich was born in the fall of the year in the village of Kodun-Bilchir, Khorinsky district, a sixth child in a poor peasant family. In infancy, he was left without a mother, from an early age he knew the severity of peasant labor: plowed, sowed, pricked firewood from wealthy people.

The basics of literacy, he studied with a private teacher Ayurzhan Sanzhiev, then entered the Khorinsky parish school. In the year, in the ulus they created a cell of the Revolutionary Communist Council of Youth and the summer Darma became its member. In the year, he entered political courses at the Buryat-Mongol regional committee of the Komsomol. After the successful completion of the study, he became the secretary of the Komsomol cell.

Remembering these years, a friend of his youth, Galsan-Ciren Namsaraev says that Darma, in addition to active work in public reconstruction, was engaged in sports: he ran well, was fond of freestyle wrestling, swam perfectly. Childhood Comrade Tsydyp Rinchino also recalls that Darma could be under water for a long time - this was useful to him in hostilities. In the year he was sent to study at the Moscow Institute of Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture.

Seven years later, returning to his native Buryatia, Darma Zhanaev began working as an electrical engineer at the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant. Soon he was appointed head of the power unit of the main energy department, then the head of the electrician and the senior engineer of the department of the main energy of the plant. From the first days of work, he showed himself to be a disciplined initiative engineer, a person of creative thought and persistent nature.

He quickly won the respect and love of his comrades, everyone appreciated his directness and modesty, the ability to devote himself to his beloved business, team. Along with great work at the factory, Darma worked on the preparation of the design plan of the electrification of the collective farm named after Telman Selenginsky Aimak. Working on the project, he dreamed of the day when he would begin to create a plan for electrification of his native village.

He often told his fellow countrymen about his dream when they were visiting him. The fearless lieutenant, with the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, Darma Zhanaev volunteered to go to the front, but was refused: a reservation was imposed on him as a specialist. And only on December 19, he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army and sent to the front line as a commander of a sapper platoon.

The engineering training of Darma Zhanaev helped him successfully carry out complex combat missions throughout the entire period of the war. He was in the immediate vicinity of the enemy. Zhanaev crawled with fighters to Brod, despite the fierce rifle-machine gun fire of the enemy and continuous coverage of the place of work with missiles, mined him, being waist-deep in cold spring water.

The lieutenant completed a combat mission without falling losses. For this feat, he was presented to the medal "for courage." Soon, Darma Zhanaev was appointed head of the engineering service of the Gvardei Motor Rifle -Rifle -Rifle Vasilkovsky Red Banner Brigade. The bold captain Zhanaev knew how to raise the fighting spirit of warriors, accurately and timely ensured the fulfillment of the tasks of the command to cleanse plots, roads, the construction of crossings and swamps for the successful attack of our troops.

For this, he was presented to the orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degree, and later awarded the Order of the Red Banner. The famous Buryat writer Danri Khiltukhin in his article “Captain D. Zhanaev” tells about the combat exploits of the commander of the sapper platoon of the captain of Darma Zhanaev. Under the enemy fire, he built a crossing, made an increase in the ice of the upper construction.

After that, he crossed the artillery and ammunition of the brigade, which ensured the occupation of the bridgehead on the opposite shore. For the leadership of an engineering unit, which worked selflessly when crossing the river, he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree. In April of the year, the Darkma Zhanaev division participated in the battles for Berlin, where he led the construction of crossings on the Niza and Spree rivers, ensuring a quick transfer of troops.

Despite the intensity of enemy fire in crossings, Darma Zhanaev fulfilled the task: during the battles he built five bridges and seven kilometers of roads in forested-folly places. There were only 14 days left before the victory. For the heroism and combat merits of Darme Zhanaev, the title of Hero of the Soviet Union was posthumous. Ever in the memory of the hero, the name of the hero was forever included in the list of the team of the aviation plant, where he worked before the Great Patriotic War and where he went to the front.
