Flyagin biography
Leskova “The Enchanted Wanderer” Type: The characteristics of the heroes N. Leskov never lost faith in a Russian person, in his ability to overcome all the disasters. The writer faded and saw himself in the usual atholeness, even “savagery”, simple Russian life, some bright principles. This was clearly manifested in the “enchanted wanderer”, a story about Ivan Flyagin, the son of a serf peasant and coachman.
What is the unusualness of fate, the life path of this hero? Many researchers call Flyagin "the truth -seeker of the Russian land." In principle, this is a fair definition, but not accurate enough. What truth is Flyagin looking for? Can he look for the truth with his impulsiveness and low education?
Apparently, Flyagin is a special type, a kind of “nugget”. He, of course, is a seeker, but not true as such, but beauty, the meaning of life. Ivan is “prayer”, that is, a son hesed from God. From his very birth, restlessness, an eternal desire through failures and “breakdowns” to a bright, energetically complete, “flowerful” existence are inherent in him. Hence the “falls” of this hero and, in the final light, enlightenment of the spirit, the rejection of the indecent.
Fate seemed to feel Flyagin on the fortress of the feelings of good and common sense laid in him. You will “die many times and will never perish” - he is predicted in his adolescence. So it happened. The whole life of the hero is a chain of misfortunes, the cause of which was often he himself, his thirst for extraordinary, the game of internal forces, who did not have useful use.
So, as a child, Flyagin turned out to be an indirect culprit of the “road” incident, as a result of which the monk died. As an adult, the hero did not avoid adventurous situations with martial arts with the Tatars near Penza. Because of this, Ivan Seversovich had to hide in the steppe settlements for more than ten years, where he was implanted in horse hair in the heel, and he could not walk normally.
Many times Flyagin was a victim of trust and pernicious passion for a “green snake” ... But all the misadventures not only did not weaken his craving for life and perfection, but also strengthened it. Hence the hero’s wanderings, a constant search for what would satisfy the “mental thirst”, a craving for simplicity, unusual. All this explains the accent word in the title of the story - "fascinated." The charm of life and beauty with unusual power is revealed in a tavern stage.
The pretty drunk Ivan Flyagin gives all the host money five thousand rubles per spell of Gypsy - the beauty of Grushenka: he “swept her under the legs” during the dance of all his “swans”, that is, large bills of money. In the excitement, the hero’s soul broke up: “Isn't you, damned, and made the earth and the sky? The words are blasphemous and, at the same time, deeply sincere, powerful.
And Flyagin found this truth, at least for himself, in relation to the situation in which he ended up after all the wandering and deprivation. Without a family, a permanent place of residence, certain classes, the hero all the time breaks up for the better, tries to unravel the “meaning” of life. In the end, he finds himself in the monastery, in the hope of stopping the “restlessness” of his soul there, to find truly beautiful.
In this sense, Flyagin reminds us of the “future son”, which, after many misfortunes, comes to the monastery in order to slaughter his “sins” there. But, being in the monastery, Ivan did not get rid of the torment of his conscience for the death of Grushenka, for the death of the Tatar, the monk. He all seemed to him that Satan was chasing him. It was decided to put Flyagin in the “cellar”, so that there, in prayers and in asceticism, release from the obsession came.
So it happened. But at the same time, another thing happened: the incredibly important insight of the hero. He was sent down to see and understand what others - alas! Since then, our hero has been fulfilled "Fear for his Russian and began to pray ... all about the Motherland ... Yes, for his people." The meaning of the wanderings, the whole life path of Ivan Flyagin, the foresight of the misfortune, which hung over the people and the unclean, foreshadowing it, which he had in itself in itself for many years, usually refers to the purely poetic element of the story.
They see a fantastic, “wonderful” and therefore as if not common. But this is not so. The lips of Flyagin Leskov are not directly, but in the figurative, “prophetic” form, he warned the form in the years of the XIX century: “We are all eliminating near us.” And the spiritual richness of Ivan Flyagin is that he convinces us to the whole bitter, but high in power of drama by his fate: it is necessary to act with “mind”, responsibility, devotion to faith, without casting honor and concern for something else.
It's time to raise the question like that - only that! Otherwise, "all -destruction." The thorny life path of the protagonist, the hardships that he suffered, as if crowned by this "truth of life" to which he strove. She was Flyagin also necessary, like all people.
