Yu Mann Biography
In memory of Yuri Vladimirovich Mann, Professor Mann is an example of a scientist and man. A graduate of the Faculty of Philology of Moscow University, he immediately decided on the field of philology, which he dedicated to seventy years of his life. His scientific interests lay in the field of Russian classical literature. Understanding the work of Belinsky, Nadezhdin, Aksakov brothers; work on the nature of the grotesque; The study of Russian philosophical aesthetics - the list of his scientific works is incredibly vast.
But Mann was not only a “cabinet” scientist. The professor actively worked with students, opposed candidate and doctoral dissertations, and made reports at conferences around the world. Many well -known researchers can proudly call themselves the students of Yuri Vladimirovich Mann. But, of course, the main author for Mann is Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol. Immediately after the defense of the doctoral dissertation on the topic “Gogol Realism and the Problem of the grotesque” in the year, Professor Mann conceived the main project of his life - the release of the full academic collected works of Gogol.
The need for the publication of all the discovered texts of the writer, in a new commentary on his works, deprived of the engagement of both Soviet and post -Soviet era, has risen for a long time. But we needed authority, encyclopedic knowledge and, finally, Yuri Vladimirovich’s energy to begin to implement this idea. Unfortunately, the scientist will no longer see the “Academic Gogol” in a finished form today, edited by the professor, have been published five volumes from the planned twenty -three, but he always said that colleagues will certainly complete his business, continuing to publish a meeting.
It is impossible not to mention another significant work of Yu. Mann, namely, the writer’s full -fledged scientific biography created by him is an extensive three -volume study that reveals the numerous aspects of the classic’s life and creative path. For Gogol’s house, the death of Professor Mann is a huge loss. He was not only a close friend of our museum, but also a person who stood at the origins of the creation of a memorial exposition, an attentive and sensitive consultant; He was a member of the academic council of Gogol's House.
Plenary meetings of the annual scientific Gogol readings held by the museum and the library were traditionally opened by the reports of Yuri Vladimirovich. His deep, substantial performances, as well as accurate issues and comments on other participants, demonstrated that Mann continued active research at the age of 90, developed new concepts and made scientific discoveries in the field of gogovedia.
Among other things, Yuri Vladimirovich Mann is a rare example of a great scientist who did not refuse to write scientific books for schoolchildren. Sometimes eminent experts believe that this is too “small” for them - to chew serious science to ordinary children. Such a characteristic is completely not applicable to the personality of Yuri Vladimirovich.
Several publications were withstood by his book “Comprehending Gogol”, which is studied by schoolchildren of the whole of Russia. Now in our museum a new manual of the famous methodologist T. Kalganova, addressed to teachers, is being prepared for printing - “We are studying Gogol with Yuri Mann”. We really wanted Yuri Vladimirovich to see him in a printed form.
Alas, this did not happen. However, it is possible to express firm confidence that the legacy of the scientist will continue to live, and his work will withstand more than one reprint in the future. We express deep condolences to the family of Yuri Vladimirovich, his colleagues in IMLI RAS and all Russian philological science, because the death of Professor Mann is an irreparable loss for world humanities.
Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev once said about Gogol: “A person who, with his name, meant an era in the history of our literature; The person we are proud of, as one of our glory!
