Kalinikov Biography

However, both of them are quite self -sufficient and individual, like the artists of the Vasnetsov - Victor and Apopolinaria, also their native brothers. Both of them come from the Mtsensk district of the Oryol province, sung by their countryman-writer Leskov. The father of the boys, a poor official who received the nobility for impeccable service, himself loved music very much and even led an amateur choir in the local church.

It was he who instilled in his children a craving for art, education and culture, sending them first to the eagle, where they studied at the Theological Seminary, and then to Moscow. There, the brothers graduate from the musical and drama school at the Moscow Philharmonic Society, which was a certain alternative to the conservatory and was next to her. Among the graduates of this educational institution Kusevitsky, Moskvin, Meyerhold, Sobinov, Sveshnikov and other prominent artists and musicians, and among the teachers are the critic of Kruglikov and director Nemirovich-Danchenko.

The first of them, a student of Rimsky-Korsakov, a friend of Chaliapin and Rachmaninov, helps the brothers take the first steps in creativity, contributes to their employment. It is to him that Kalinnikov Sr. devotes his ingenious 1st symphony. The second, on the basis of his student course of the year, creates, together with Stanislavsky, the new, Art Theater of the Moscow Art Theater, which soon became the host in Russia.

He invites here as the musical director of Kalinikov - the youngest.

But from that moment their paths diverge. Vasily suddenly gets sick with tuberculosis and moves, like Chekhov, to Yalta, where he soon dies at a very young age. And Victor happened to live to the Soviet regime. In the same year, he enters the Synodal School, preparing regents and church singers, and actively works in this area - writes spiritual and secular choirs, as well as children's songs and choral processing of folk melodies.

His works, both for the church and for the concert scene, are characterized by melodic melodic, colorfulness, smooth and natural development of voices. They are characterized by landscape, picture, narrative. They develop the traditions of domestic classic composers-Bortnyansky, Glinka, Tchaikovsky, Kuchkustov, combined with elements of folk singing and music for the church. In his work, he stands on a par with other representatives of the so -called “new direction in Russian spiritual music” of that time - Kastalsky, Grechanin, and Chesnokov.

Many of his vocal-chore miniatures sound today. In addition, Kalinnikov leads the performing groups in various Moscow schools, including in the highest technical now name Bauman, is part of the musical and ethnographic commission at Moscow University, draws up and editing folk songs and makes their processing. However, the violent military revolutionary events in Russia affected Kalinnikov’s health. He died in the village of Saltykovka near Moscow from tuberculosis, like his beloved brother, only 3 days after his flying. The text is Anatoly Lysenkov.
